Cairn Homes developed two apartment blocks at the site adjacent to the recently completed Marianella complex in Rathgar, Dublin 6. The site is considered the Phase 2 of the Marianella development.
The larger block of apartments (Block F) is split into two cores. Block G consists of a single core. Each core shall incorporate a 13-man lift.
Block F consists of 68 apartments, while Block G consists of 39 apartments.
In addition to apartments the complex consists of: – basement level bar/ lounge, meeting room, gym, changing facilities, plant rooms, storage space and comms room, ground floor residential amenity space and bicycle storage area.
Design development included pursual of system selections in-line with a future-proofed compliant NZEB solution. Systems studied included PV and hot water heat pump, external central heat pump, CHP and district heating/central plant.
Axiseng were chosen to deliver the M&E design of the development based on the longstanding experience with high-quality residential complexes.
Final system selection was a central plant solution, like Marianella Phase 1 development.
Central plant consists of gas-fired boilers and CHP. Central services are distributed through the blocks serving individual Heat Interface Units (HIUs) within each apartment.
Landlord risers and corridor spaces have been sized to accommodate the piped services associated with central plant.
Preliminary design BERs were undertaken by Axiseng with a resulting A3 rating.
