23,000m2

Dublin, Ireland

- present, 2014

Facebook, one of the largest online social networking service, is located on Grand Canal Square and Hanover Quay in the heart of Dublin City.

Axiseng was commissioned by the client to lead the mechanical and electrical services design of the project which consisted of the fit-out of 23,000m² of total space over a 5 year span.

Grand Canal North was a 20,000m² grey shell fitted out to CAT A by the landlord.  Axiseng were appointed by Facebook to design and monitor the full CAT B fit-out to include oversight of design and construction of the landlord’s CAT A works.

Hanover Quay was a 3,000m² refurbishment comprising the complete installation of a Cat B fit out in an existing speculative building carried out in phases, the last of which was the restaurant completed in September 2012. The overall project was designed to LEED Gold Standard.

In phase 1 of the project, Facebook took possession of the existing Cat A fitted out floor in the building.  In phase 2, Facebook took possession of a similar floor.  The floors were fitted out with an active chilled beam system delivering both heating and cooling to the space.  The engineering services comprised of the adaption of existing services to allow for new meeting rooms, chill out areas, games rooms and main comms room including, dedicated duty/standby cooling, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and associated structured cabling.

The client also required 2 full commercial kitchens to be installed, however, this required new AHU and extract as well as alterations to the lifts for servicing. This posed a challenge in a space which was not originally designed to accommodate this.  The project team determined that works were required to risers and reconfigured the landlord plant to facilitate this. As a result, both kitchens and refurbished space on all floors are now operational to the client’s satisfaction.
