The project consisted of a new 340-bed aparthotel for Staycity, over 6-storeys including restaurant, reception, gym, laundry and grey box artist studios with external courtyards,
Having worked with the Client on a previous residential scheme, Axiseng were approached to deliver mechanical, electrical and lift services for the new aparthotel, as designers prior to novation to D&B contractors.
One of the challenges during the design process were archaeological finds on site for historical walls which slowed excavation of basement for piling works. However, these finds were preserved and now form a part of the building adding a special feature to the aparthotel displaying them under a glass floor with addition of lights.
Other challenges were to deliver the latest specifications for wi-fi, access control and other features as for the tenant requirements. Working on another Staycity project within the office equipped us with shared knowledge of operator guidelines and standards which enabled a successful delivery of these.
The building was designed to achieve BREEAM Very Good rating.
