The Health Service Executive (HSE) provides all of Ireland’s public health services in hospitals and communities across the country.
The development, after being granted planning permission in August 2015, is located at the University Hospital Galway and comprises of the construction of a new 2-storey 48 bedroom treatment and rehabilitation facility for patients with mental illnesses (Adult Acute Mental Health Unit). The project also included a new multi-storey carpark.
Axiseng were commissioned by the Health Service Executive to design and implement the mechanical and electrical services in the new development with respect to the HSE’s requirements of “A Vision for Change”.
All of the construction works were done with due consideration of the existing buildings which remained a live hospital campus during the construction period. The existing site had a large quantity of existing campus services which needed to be diverted during out of hours to allow for construction to continue or had to be protected during the construction period.
The project involved masterplanning within the existing hospital campus which required detailed analysis and works associated with the existing MV and LV networks while maintaining and connecting to the existing hospital services such as medical gasses and pneumatic tube systems for parcel deliveries between buildings.
The the new AAMHU facility provides a comfortable, convenient and centralised medical facility within the grounds of the hospital campus and additional car parking facilities which were urgently needed.
